This book is the last in a series featuring Masie Dobbs. I have read all the books -- loved them, and am sorry that this is the last. The series begins before World War I. Masie is a 16 year old servant who is found reading at night by the lady of the manor, who decides to have her educated. Masie becomes a nurse during the war, and ultimately, a detective as she must investigate the reappearance of a supposedly dead man who turns up at a center for men who are recovering their health after the war. Start with the first book in the series, Masie Dobbs.
