Thursday, June 19 | 6 pm
Lee Martin Author Visit. A photo of the author and his new novel, The Evening Shades.
The Friends of Delaware County District Library are excited to host Lee Martin, author of The Bright Forever, a finalist for the 2006 Pulitzer Prize in Fiction. Martin will share a conversation with Thao Thai on Thursday, June 19th, at Board and Brush Creative Studio in Powell. Martin's latest novel, The Evening Shades, tells the small-town story of two lonely people, a widow and a traveler in 1972 rural Illinois, and their understanding of truth and sacrifice. While The Evening Shades is a standalone novel, fans of The Bright Forever may recognize some familiar characters and settings! Tickets include a paperback copy of The Evening Shades and light refreshments. Beer and wine may be purchased separately at the event.
Tickets are available now!

This Month's Recommended Read
Reviewed by Marilyn McAdams,
Powell resident and your fellow Mature Reader
This is a wonderful book of a multi-generational family. The grandfather is an airline pilot who has a stroke and is near death. The grandson is diagnosed as being on the autism spectrum at the same time the grandfather is recovering. Considering "Flying at Night" is her first novel, Ms. Brown does a great job of putting us into the minds of each of the characters, especially the mother. It is not a "how-to" book but rather offers readers insight into the emotions that someone goes through during rough times.

Don't forget, it's time for Summer Reading Club! Pick up your tracking bookmark at your favorite DCDL location, or print it at home now!

If you've enjoyed this edition of the Mature Reader, please share it with your friends! We'll be back next month with more just for you.
