Animals in Winter

Hi, friends, it's Percy! Did you know that some animals go to sleep for the whole winter? Not dogs, or cats, or birds (or unicorns!), but certain animals that live outside like bears, turtles, and hedgehogs do. Their very long sleep is called hibernation. Hibernation helps animals to survive the cold weather when it's hard to find food. Animals start preparing for hibernation during the fall, when they eat lots of extra food to store fat that will keep them alive all through the winter. This month, we'll look at some animals that hibernate, and other animals that you'll still see outside.

Percy's Tip for Grown-Ups: While humans don't hibernate, getting enough sleep is always important to good health. Check out this article from KidsHealth on how much sleep is enough, and how to form good sleep habits.
