Meet bestselling author Joyce Maynard

Wednesday, July 10 | 6:30 pm | Dempsey Event Center

Joyce Maynard
The Friends of the Library are thrilled to host NYT best-selling author Joyce Maynard on Wednesday, July 10, for the release of her new novel How the Light Gets In during an enchanted evening at The Dempsey Event Center.

The evening will start in the Sanctuary with demonstrations of Chi Gong and Singing Bowls. Joyce will speak about her new novel with local writing legend Lee Martin, a professor at The Ohio State University.

After the presentations, guests will enjoy wine and charcuterie, and have the opportunity to make a “cork person” featured in Maynard's novel Count the Ways. Each ticket will include a copy of How the Light Gets In. Additional titles will be available for purchase and signing from Beanbag Books.

Event tickets, which include refreshments and a copy of How the Light Gets In, are $55. Friends of DCDL, check your email for a discount promo code!

How to Cut a Mat
for a Frame
Mat Cutter

Wednesday, July 10 | 3:30 pm

Join us at Liberty Branch Library's Maker Studio for this tutorial. In this class, you'll learn to use our mat cutter to make custom sized mats for framed artwork. While there are plenty of photo frames at local stores, not all of them have mats sized for your custom artwork. In this session, we'll look at how to size your artwork to a mat, and then how to cut it to better fit your frames. Registration is required.

Friends of the DCDL

Friends of the DCDL

Have you met our Friends? Formed in 2007, the Friends of the Delaware County District Library is a non-profit, all-volunteer organization that supports the mission, services and needs of the DCDL. The Friends coordinate best-selling author visits (like this month's visit with Joyce Maynard!) and support the library’s Maker Studios and Summer Reading Club. The Friends raise funds through book sales and special events, membership dues, and donations. In 2023, the Friends awarded over $70,000 in grants to the Delaware County District Library! Remember, the Friends support all five DCDL branches: Delaware, Liberty, Orange, Ostrander and Powell... and they're always looking to meet new friends!
