Y is for YELLOWJACKET

Join children's librarian Miss Julie as she helps your young reader learn all about the letter Y. Draw along with our fun video!

Y is also for...

This week's tip: Practice with scissors! Using child-safe scissors, give your child old magazines or newpapers to practice cutting. Coupons sheets work especially well. See if your child can cut some of the shapes they've learned.

Sing

Do You Like Broccoli Ice Cream?: Y is for YUMMY -- and Y is for YUCKY, too! Both are in this silly song.

Sing it

Play

Rory's Story Cubes: It's fun to tell stories! Roll the dice, and use your imagination to make up a story using the pictures that appear.

Play it

Washing Hands

Mindfulness, and using yoga to help control your feelings. Big emotions can be hard to handle sometimes. Practice some gentle yoga poses that your child can do to help regulate their emotions and calm themselves down when they feel anxious. Taking deep breaths while counting to 5 or 10 can help, too!

Numbers: 15 (fifteen)

Ten plus five equals 15! Can you count by fives up to 15? Five, ten, fifteen! What would come next?

💡 Play time tip: Pull out some pennies, dimes, and nickles. How many different ways can you combine the coins to add up to 15 cents?

We hope you have fun this week! We'll be back next week with the letter Z.
