The letter W is also for...

This week's tip: Choose a fairytale or nursery rhyme and mix it up. Many of these classic tales have different versions. Encourage your child to use their imagination and tweak a character or two with their own ideas!

The Silly Word Play: W is also for WORD and WHY. Join PBS Kids' Super Why for The Silly Word Play.

Play

Pretend: Use materials in unusual ways! Try using a pot as a shovel, or banana as a phone, like Ernie. Then use familiar objects in mulitiple different ways!

Washing Hands

Wash your hands. Teach children the 5 steps of hand washing: wet, lather, scrub, rinse, dry. Also teach the key times when washing hands is appropriate, like before eating, or after using the restroom. Sing the ABCs to teach the appropriate length of time to wash.

Numbers: 9 (nine)

Can you count to 9? Nine is a book of poems for kids, where each has nine lines (and is also about the number nine!). Read it together and count the lines of the poems.

💡 Play time tip: Money play! Take this opportunity to play shop with pretend (or real) money. Count out nine bills, and then count out nine pennies!

We hope you have fun this week! We'll be back next week with the letter X.
