S is for SNAKE

Join children's librarian Miss Julie as she helps your young reader learn all about the letter S. Draw along with our fun video!

This week's tip: Play games using rhyming words to help your child hear similar sounds in words. Point out things around the house and see if they can find words to rhyme (For example, ask "What rhymes with rug?" A few possible answers include bug, mug, and hug!)

Sing

Shake My Sillies Out: This song has lots of S words, like shake and silly. Sing is an S words, too!

Play

Silly Shenanigans: This is a fun game of tactile perception. Can your child find all the right shapes without seeing them?

Sharing. Sharing is a social skill that helps to build healthy, strong relationships. Model sharing with your child or encourage sharing between siblings (they can share snacks or toys). Praise your children when you see them share to encourage the behavior.

Numbers: 5 (five)

Can you count to five? Practice tracing the number five. Now draw the number five -- a straight line across, a straight line down, and then most of a circle.

💡 Play time tip! Using different colored pom poms, put five of each color into a single container and mix them up. Have the child use tweezers to separate out the colors into 5 different containers, labeled by color.
