Fun with Vocabulary
Hi friends, it's Percy! This month we're focusing on words and vocabulary. Vocabulary just means all the words that you know right now. I think it's fun to learn new words; how about you? Some of my favorite words are names for dinosaurs. I'll bet you've heard of a T-Rex, but did you know the T stands for Tyrannosaurus? You can meet him at the T-Rex Teatime later this month! Read more about it below, and keep learning new words!
Percy's Tip for Grown-Ups: Every time you talk or read to your child, you have an opportunity to help expand their vocabulary. If you talk about what interests your child, it is more likely they will pay attention and learn a new word. Get more vocabulary-building tips from the Hanen Centre.
Percy's Picks for September:
Read!
Dude: Fun with Dude and Betty
The whole family will enjoy this "So-Cal" version of Dick and Jane. Learn some beach slang along the way with this totally rad surfer dude (who just happens to be named Dude).
Kids ages 3-6 will enjoy a dinosaur-themed storytime with the book Tea Rex by Molly Idle, followed by a tea party with snacks and tea. Your little may come dressed up for tea or in their favorite dinosaur outfit. Pre-registration is required!
Touch typing is the fastest way to write. Many people quickly learn touch type faster than they can write with a pen! Your little will also learn some letters and words along the way.
Why? Because Fancy Nancy has some pretty fancy words to share! Explore the fabulous outdoors, play the Name Game, and learn some words about fashion (like chic, trendy, a la mode, and panache).
Why? Because this video makes learning opposites a piece of cake! Hot & cold, sweet & sour, empty & full: opposites are everywhere (including the foods we eat)! Kids big and small will love it.
