Let's give thanks!

Hi, friends, it's Percy! Autumn is here, and November is the perfect time to go for walks in the park, gather with friends and family, and think about all the things that make us feel happy and grateful. I'm thankful for all the new friends I've made at Storytimes, for having lots of fun picture books to read, for all the new games here at the Library, and of course I'm thankful for YOU! What are you thankful for? You and your grownup can list them on this month's craft, and it will make a beautiful decoration for all your November celebrations.

Percy's Tip for Grown-Ups: Research shows that thankful people are more optimistic and less stressed. Teaching kids to be grateful -- both for material items and for the kindness of others -- can help them become happier, healthier adults. Curious? Read more here!

Kids' Cookbook Club

We'll be making a tasty recipe from "The Recipe-a-Day Kids Cookbook." Spinach artichoke bowls make a great after-school snack or appetizer -- and could be a wonderful contribution for your youngster to make for seasonal get-togethers. All supplies will be provided for this program!

Percy's making... a Garland of Thanks!

Why? Because this pretty craft is just the thing for all your autumn gatherings! This wonderful craft from the Mama.Papa.Bubba blog makes a lovely decoration while encouraging discussion of all the things that both children and grownups are thankful for. How long will your garland grow as you list all the things that make you glad?

Percy's watching... One is a Feast for Mouse

Why? Because what's left of the Thanksgiving feast is a bounty for little mouse! Mouse peeps out of his hidey-hole and spots one green pea, one red cranberry, one plate of mashed potatoes, and one roasted turkey -- that should make a very fine feast for Mouse! But can he get it all back to his hidey-hole?
